My schedule for the next two months is tighter than Rush Limbaugh's bikini briefs. Thankfully what it contains is much more interesting, however.
I have decided to enter the Romance Writers of America's prestigious contest for non-published authors, the Golden Heart, this year. I have less than three weeks to submit my final revisions and the (dreaded) synopsis where I tell the judges every exciting detail of my manuscript, hooking them with my sheer brilliance... and doing it in five pages or less.
Eep.
Alongside this fabulous (Crazy. Insane. What was I thinking?) opportunity, I am the base of operations for my family. My sister-in-law coined the phrase "Command Post" in our family, and it fits my position perfectly. I am the Golden Eagle, the Big, Bad Boss, SuperMom. The Buck Stops Here. That means when there is a Halloween costume issue, or a meal to be cooked, or home-work to be done, or parties, school events and community gatherings to attend, I am in charge of fixing it, cooking it and getting us all there in one piece.
Whew. I'm tired just thinking about this.
But, I'm not the only one running around with a patch-up kit on one hand and a drumstick in the other. I am just one of millions of parents this month trying to remember to do the laundry so the kids have socks, double-check homework, cook a meal with some nutritional value and work a job, whether it be full-time or part-time, in or out of the home. It makes me feel better that I'm not in this alone. And really, who needs sleep? I have coffee.
What do you have going on this month? Anything exciting? Are you celebrating the holidays or it just an extra day off of work that you get to sleep in or laze around?
